Il Re Pastore - About

Il Re Pastore is the third opera in the Danish Radio Sinfonietta programme of concert performances and CD releases of Mozart’s opera serias – the “serious” operatic genre popular in Mozart’s youth. Il Re Pastore is quite dissimilar to its two predecessors, Mitridate and Lucio Silla. Gentle breezes waft between the trees in the shepherd’s sylvan abode, the stream babbles lovingly among the rocks, and there are no threats of murder or foul play: only the question of whether any king can reign without love.

The opera will also be performed on tour to Mannheim, December 2003, and recorded for release on CD.
