Lucio Silla - About this recording

A unique recording of Mozart’s Lucia Silla
featuring Adam Fischer and his Danish Sinfonietta

Mozart’s opera seria masterpiece

Lucio Silla is rarely performed, and to many people it is completely unfamiliar. Mozart was only 16 when he wrote this profoundly mature work on the tyranny of power and the power of love. It is about the dictator of Rome, Lucio Silla, who wants to marry Giuna, the daughter of Caius Marius. Unfortunately she is betrothed to Cecilio, who is in exile, and now events gather steam ... Lucio Silla is recognized as a masterpiece of its genre, and it was first performed at the Teatro Regio Ducal, Milan, in 1772.

A cast of stars

Among the cast we find an impressive team of singers described by Opernwelt as follows “Mit einem solch überzeugenden und geschlossenen Ensemble und solcher Spielfreude ist Adam Fischers Mozart-Interpretation ein nachdrückliches Plädoyer für den jungen Mozart“. Lothar Odinius (Lucio Silla) is a major Mozart tenor, the celebrated soprano Simone Nold provides verve and scintillating coloratura in the female lead, and Krista Hammarström from Sweden (Cecilio), a favourite with conductors like Rene Jacobs and Christoph Rousset, lends her velvet tones to Cecilio’s torment. Adam Fischer is famous all over the world for his performances of Haydn and Wagner; as chief conductor of the Danish Radio Sinfonietta he has developed a special Mozart approach and in this recording we hear the first part of it.
The recording of Lucio Silla, an opera seria in three acts, KV 135, includes a comprehensive booklet containing essays in German, French and English, and the libretto in the four major languages.
